Yoga
Emma Burton
Hatha
Emma Burton has been a keen practitioner and advocate for yoga therapy for the past six years. She trained in New York City with the Integral Yoga Institute and now practices as a Registered Yoga Teacher under the Yoga Alliance.
Emma teaches mainly Hatha-style yoga, combining physical poses (asana), breathing practice (pranayama) and meditation. Her aim is to allow the holistic practice of yoga to heal and invigorate the entire body on a cellular level: to encourage full and efficient breath-work: and to centre the mind.
Emma encourages both a non-competitive and challenging approach to yoga. She allows her students to understand their uniquely wonderful bodies, to integrate physical limitations, as well as to challenge it to grow and for the yoga practice to deepen.
Honor Legh
Iyengar
Honor has been a dedicated practitioner of Iyengar yoga since a young age. The transformative power of yoga is what has led her to study the subject in depth and inspired her to teach.
Honor’'s teaching is full of energy and insight, with an emphasis on the cultivation of awareness and understanding of the practices. She encourages a balance between effort and relaxation, always paying attention to the needs of the individual as well as of the group. As a teacher, it is her aim to cultivate good health and balance in her students by helping everyone to improve progressively in a safe and supportive environment.
As well as being certified to teach the Iyengar method Honor holds an ITEC diploma in Anatomy and Physiology and in Holistic Nutrition. She continues to develop her personal skills in the interest of her valued students and to continue her own growth as at teacher and practitioner. Her love of yoga is what brings her teaching alive and her energy, passion and sensitivity are what makes her classes enjoyable and accessible to everyone.
Honor grew up in London and has a background in the arts and alternative medicine, studying fine art before focusing much of her energy on the practice of yoga. This hasn'’t stopped her from packing a backpack and setting off to see the world. She has traveled for many months each year all over South America, South East Asia, India and Europe in pursuit of experience, a broader mind and a sturdy palm tree to hang her hammock! Her globetrotting has taken her to India where she studied yoga and ayurveda and enjoyed her favourite food. This year Honor has a trip planned to Pune in India where she will have the privilege to study at the Ramamani Memorial Iyengar Yoga Institute and bring back inspiration for her classes.
Matt Spellman
Astanga
I am a Hatha and Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga instructor, yoga therapist and shiatsu acupressure massage therapist living in London, UK. My yoga journey began in 1994 when I first traveled to India and has continued ever since studying ashtanga vinyasa, dynamic and hatha yoga with well know London based teachers including Simon Lowe, Godfrey Davreaux and Fausto Dorelli. The first Teacher Training Course I undertook was in 2005 with the Sivananda Vedanta system of integral yoga. However, most of my formal and certified training has been in India studying ancient yoga and Ayurvedic yoga therapy under the guidance of Dr. Jitendra Das of The Patanjali International Yoga Foundation, pranayama with BNS Iyengar at the Mysore Mandala, and ashtanga vinyasa with Yogi Kumal Singh at Tattvaa Shala in Rishikesh. More recently in London I have undertaken workshops with Ashtanga Vinyasa master teachers Kino Macgregor and David Swenson. I have been teaching regularly since 2006 in the UK, Italy and India.
My style of teaching focuses on building strength, detail to alignment with a strong emphasis on breath control. I teach all the 8 limbs of Ashtanga and bring in yogic philosophy where applicable. I focus mainly on the primary and secondary ashtanga series and offer variations of all asanas for every level. Yoga is a journey, a process of purification and through clear understanding, patience and regular practice, all will follow and unfold in a beautiful way. Be focused with a light heart and enjoy the journey. Om Namah Shivaya
